i've been an allman brothers fan for quite a long time now, there a great seventies band. I just got their new anthology, "Stand Back" from someone here at UMG...its really good. It spans 35 years of their music career, and has two discs to it. Is anyone here an allman brothers fan or has picked up this cd yet? IF you are a fan and havent heard it yet, i really recommend it. i think you can listen to some of it at cdnow.com...if you want to listen to it or if you havent heard of allman brothers and want to hear their sound.

highlights to this album: first of all, the cd comes with a really nice booklet with many pics and tons of info, which is 24 pages. The new anthology is a two disc compilation, with 32 digitally remastered recordings of all their classics. This is the only anthology spanning their 35 yr career. As i mentioned before, if you want to check it out on cdnow.com you can sample some of the songs on the cd.

I caught the Warren Haynes concert at Townhall here in Manhattan last week...WHAT A SHOW! I found myself searching the web for tours dates on Gov't Mule/Allmans and Haynes...I can't wait to see him perform again. :strumma:

warren haynes..one of my favourite musicians and a brilliant guitarist (just love his acoustic guitar)...gov`t mule are so good, such a high standard of all round musicianship....i`d love to see them live...their live performances with ben harper playing pedal steel are amazing as well.....

fav gov`t mule track??..." thorazine shuffle '..

GOV'T MULE CELEBRATES 1,000th CONCERT IN GRAND STYLE... AND KEEPS GOING

(New York, NY) -- Founding Gov't Mule members Warren Haynes (guitar,

vocals) and Matt Abts (drums) with now-permanent bandmates Danny Louis

(keyboards) and Andy Hess (bass) performed Mule's monumental 1,000th concert,

Friday, April 16, at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco.

The group proved what ten years and a thousand shows sounds like with

a seamlessly tune-packed, blues-drenched opening set.

The second began with what seemed like a simple appearance by bassist

Phil Lesh on "Lay of the Sunflower." But this soon turned into an

unexpected all Dead set as drummers Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann took

up the unusual two-kit drum set-up, and guitarist Bob Weir and keyboardist

Jeff Chimenti also took the stage. during "Cryptical Envelopment." Gov't

Dead, so to speak, dealt a powerful serving of "The Other One," Wang Dang

Doodle," Sugaree," "Viola Lee Blues" and a "Turn on Your Lovelight" closer.

Only the Mule crew returned for an extraordinarily jammed-out third set,

marked by legendary New Orleans funk group the Meter's Zigaboo Modeliste

sat in on Robert Johnson's "32-20 Blues" and Neville Brothers' "Fiyo on

the Bayou." The show ended the only way it possibly could -- with a rousing

version of "Soulshine."

The following night, Mule celebrated its 1,001st concert at Beverly Hills'

Wilshire Theatre, welcoming harp player Hook Herrera for an historic reprise

of his appearance at the first-ever Gov't Mule show at Palamino in North

Hollywood, May 12, 1994. For Saturday's event, Herrera

backed the boys on blues classics "She's Nineteen Years Old" and "Ain't

Superstitious."

Ben Harper also joined the band, adding lap steel and sharing vocal duties

for the Mule original "Lay Your Burden Down" and Howlin' Wolf's

"Smokestack Lightning." Guitarist Marc Ford (Black Crowes, Ben Harper)

shared vocals and dueling guitar licks on Neil Young's "Cortez The

Killer."

Gov't Mule will continue to celebrate with a Tenth Anniversary two-night

stand at New Orleans' Orpheum Theatre on Friday, April 30 and Saturday,

May 1.

While honoring the band's massive history, Haynes, Abts, Louis and Hess

continue to look to the future. The foursome is currently assembling the

first Gov't Mule studio album since the addition of Louis and Hess as

permanent band members. It will also be the first release since the extensive

guest-gathering Deep End series and the first proper band-based recorded

effort since founding bassist Allen Woody's passing August 26, 2000. The

recording is scheduled for an autumn 2004 release on ATO Records.

Meanwhile Warren Haynes' solo acoustic album, LIVE AT BONNAROO (ATO Records),

which documents the entire 16-song set Haynes performed at the 2003 Bonnaroo

music festival, will be released June 8, 2004. The release features Mule

favorites "Beautifully Broken" and "Fallen Down" and some exciting covers,

like the glorious version of Radiohead's "Lucky" and a redefining interpretatio

n of U2's "One."

I was walking by and the "evictors" were throwing shit out from his apartment. In a box were old photos/projection slides, notes, casettes.. I have a cassette of a Dylan concert...or just gathering (sounds like he's in a dressing room or something) talking to people..PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY TALKING AS HE'S PLAYING...

Blues Lyrics - Hot Tuna

Keep Your Lamps Trimmed And Burning

by rev. Gary Davis

Well mother don't you stop prayin'

Father keep right on prayin'

Don't you stop prayin' for this old world is almost done

Keep your lamps trimmed and burning

Keep your lamps trimmed and burning

Keep your lamps trimmed and burning

For this old world is almost done

Brother don't you stop prayin'

Sister keep right on prayin'

Don't you stop prayin' for this old world is almost done

Keep your lamps trimmed and burning

Keep your lamps trimmed and burning

Keep your lamps trimmed and burning

For this old world is almost done

Keep our lamps trimmed and burning

Keep our lamps trimmed and burning

Keep our lamps trimmed and burning

For this old world is almost done

Keep our lamps trimmed and burning

Keep our lamps trimmed and burning

Keep our lamps trimmed and burning

For our race is almost run

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
