I highly recommend Microsoft's Virtual PC 2004 to anyone who wants to set up other operating systems on their Windows PC (linux, dos, windows,..etc) but don't want to actually dual boot or deal with much partitioning.

I have tried VMWare Workstation and Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 and the Microsoft product is way better.

The full screen mode is a lot smoother and Microsoft's Virtual PC 2004 is easier to configure and get running. Microsoft offers a 45-day trial of VPC 2004 at

Right now I am installing Red Hat Linux 7.3 on a Virtual PC for a UNIX class at my college. The only real annoying drawback of setting up virtual PCs in Windows comes if you use an entire partition for the virtual PC's hard-drive image.

Windows will bombard you with "low disk space" warnings every ten minutes. There are tweaks on the net to turn off those warnings. That is more of a Windows annoyance and not a Virtual PC issue.

Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
