THEM was the name of one of Van Morrison's early bands. Mystic Eyes was actually put out on 45--wailing rock and harmonica--I wish I still had the cut...

they used both 'mystic eye's and 'gloria' in dif episodes of the sopranos reminding me how cool van m's voice is. was. well, he could really sing back then before he moved upstate NY which seems to have calmed him down (much to my dismay).

i imagine he can but ages ago after he moved in a few doors down, we used to hear him practise and then went to see him at the Bear (woodstock NY). his material and style had changed and about the time of 'brown eyed girl,' we dismissed him as too 'folkie' and never heard him again.

i think that sums it up (for me): they're very nice tunes but i dunno, it's prolly the headbanging rebel w/i, but AFAIC, they don't rock.

Gloria was the group's big hit single.

"Here Comes The Night" and "Mystic Eyes" both made it into the top 40 but "Gloria" only reached #71 on the Billboard Charts. Shadows of Knight took "Gloria" to #10.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
