The mtvU Woodie Awards will go down on Thursday in Austin, Texas, with entertainment from a lineup that includes Mac Miller, Santigold and many more. But one of the show's scheduled performers, Childish Gambino (a.k.a. Donald Glover), was forced to cancel his performance due to an injury.

Gambino, who was set to kick off his much-anticipated Camp Tour this Friday in Atlanta, fractured his foot during one of his shows over the weekend.

"It is with great disappointment that we announce that Childish Gambino will be unable to perform at this year's mtvU Woodie Awards after suffering a severely fractured foot over the weekend at a show in Tampa, Florida," a spokesperson for the rapper told MTV News in a statement.

Due to the high-energy style of Gambino's live shows and the nature of his injury, it wasn't possible for him to move forward with the scheduled Woodies performance.

While Gambino won't be able to perform, he's celebrating his nomination for the Breaking Woodie at the 2012 awards show.

"We're sorry to hear that Childish Gambino is unable to perform at this year's Woodies. He has such a great connection with our audience," said Amy Doyle, executive producer of the 2012 mtvU Woodie Awards. "We wish him a fast recovery and look forward to working with him again in the future."

Other scheduled performers at the awards show include Steve Aoki and the aforementioned Santigold. They'll take the stage at the close of the Woodies Festival, which will feature Fun., A$AP Rocky, Walk the Moon, Wallpaper., Chiddy Bang, Machine Gun Kelly and more.

The festival event kicks off Thursday at 1 p.m. CT at Red River and East First Street in Austin, Texas. The Woodies invade SXSW on March 15 with the Woodies Festival. The best of the 2012 mtvU Woodies will air on MTV and mtvU on March 18 at 8 p.m. ET.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
