Macintosh OS on a PC (Part 2)

After reading various forums and articles about this whole "PearPC" and running Mac OS on a x86 PC, I decided to give it a try for myself.

PearPC only emulates the PowerPC hardware layer. I supplied my own Mac OS.

Since I am a big fan of screenshots (as you can tell ;) ), I have taken a few from the installation process of Mac OS X 10.3 and will post them in this thread.

Here is the first one

As for the memory and system resources the PearPC takes up, it will use as much as it can!

Right now it's only using 35 mb and like 97% of the processor CPU cycles. I am running a Intel Celeron 2.5 GHZ with 256 mb of RAM with Windows 2000 Professional.

Here is another system resources picture. The amount of memory this uses fluctuates.

Since the emulator is currently only emulating at something equivilant to 10MHZ, the installation takes a LOT of time.

Roughly 5+ hours per CD

There are code tweaks that will make it run faster eventually.

But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
