If you were looking forward to the Warner Bros films "Jack the Giant Killer" and "Arthur & Lancelot," it's time to hold on to that excitement. The studio has pushed both flicks way, way back, even going as far as to take "Arthur & Lancelot" off its release calendar.

The bad news first: due to an oversized budget and other "issues," WB has decided to bench "Arthur & Lancelot" for the time being. A Warners insider told The Hollywood Reporter that the movie is "not dead," but director David Dobkin apparently called his cast and crew Wednesday night to tell them production "wasn't looking good." "Arthur & Lancelot" was supposed to open on March 15, 2013.

One of the issues could be that the film's two stars, Kit Harington and Joel Kinnaman, are successful TV actors—and just that. Neither of them have proven they can draw crowds, especially for a movie that WB was pegging to be similar to "Sherlock Holmes."

That could mean bad news for the movie's two stars. Kinnaman is shooting "The Killing" now and so should still be available if the film's anticipated spring production start time gets bumped back, but Harington will need to return to the set of "Game of Thrones" to film the show's third season. THR expects that he could be the movie's first casualty.

Now on to the slightly less bad news: "Jack the Giant Killer" has been pushed back nine months to March 22, 2013. It was supposed to open on June 15. THR guesses that the Bryan Singer-directed fantasy epic was bumped to give the studio more time to iron out its special effects, and also attach trailers for it to "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" to help generate buzz.

In one last tiny scheduling change, WB has bumped "Rock of Ages" back two weeks to June 15, 2012.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
