"Avatar" is the highest grossing movie of all-time, so it's no surprise fans are hot to trot for a sequel -- or that director James Cameron is dedicated to producing as many of the blockbusters as possible. There are two "Avatar" sequels supposedly lined up, to be filmed at the same time for release at consecutive Christmases between 2014 and 2015.

As producer Jon Landau reveals, that may or may not be the case. Speaking at a screening for "Titanic 3D," Landau reportedly remarked that "Avatar 2" is "four years out," marking it for release in 2016. Asked to clarify by Empire, he slightly recanted, saying "It's in that window, '14, '15."

Empire speculates that he simply forgot it's 2012 and not 2011, and really, the entire line of thinking is speculative. As nothing's been officially announced, James Cameron could decide not to release a pair of sequels at all and do whatever he wants. He could do a sequel for "True Lies." Arnold Schwarzenegger's schedule is wide open right now, so why not? He could do the sequel to the 3D Justin Bieber movie. It might make more money than "Avatar 2," actually.

Regardless of the timetable for filming, there's plenty of story ideas in the mix -- Cameron's already discussed a return for Sigourney Weaver's dead scientist character (whoops, SPOILERS), and Sam Worthington has teased bigger and better concepts from the world of Pandora. We're sure that by the time a trailer released, the wait won't have seemed like anything at all.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
