Being followed by Google Syndication

Every time I visit this site and a few others, I notice a url loaded (or tries to load) in the background called "pagead2.googlesyndication.com"

Ok, I've come to the conclusing that this has something to do with Google. If I type in http://www.googlesyndication.com. I get the main page of Google. Obviously, pagead.googlesyndication.com is not an actual web page.

That means it must be some sort of alien spyware or tracking link.

Does it do anything? I haven't seen anything on my system yet that it has affected. It begs the question of what it's purpose is and why it even exists at all?

Beware :wha':

Are you blocking the google ads at the top? ;) If you are, you might not realize we run google ads opposite of the logo. That's the code requesting relevant links from for the thread.

I guess I am a paranoid web user about security while I operate in Microsoft Windows. I block all ads, pop-up windows, cookies (except for ones with strict security policies), java applets, activex controls, and other web content.

Google has advertisement? Well, that makes some sort of sense. They obviously must get their revenue from somewhere (being a private company for so long).

That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
