Phil Spector 'Murder Case'

Spector actress 'shot in mouth'

The actress killed at music producer Phil Spector's US home in 2003 was shot with a gun inside her mouth, according to the coroner's report.

Lana Clarkson also had gunshot residue on her hands, said the report prepared four days after her death.

Mr Spector's defence lawyers are likely to suggest Ms Clarkson shot herself, although her blood and gunshot residue were also found on Mr Spector.

Mr Spector was charged with murder in November and is on $1m (£550,000) bail.

TWIST IN PHIL SPECTOR CASE

New evidence uncovered by a leaked coroner's report could clear PHIL SPECTOR of murder.

The report concludes that actress Lana Clarkson died of a gunshot wound fired inside her mouth. But forensic evidence found on her hands may suggest that Clarkson pulled the trigger herself, making her death suicide.

The coroner?s report, obtained by the Associated Press, said, "Analysis revealed several highly specific particles and many consistent particles of gunshot residue on both the right and left hand." In carefully chosen words, the report went on to say "the defendant may have discharged a firearm or had hands otherwise in an environment of gunshot residue."

The blood on, and inside the barrel of the gun matched Clarkson?s, and the actress was found to have alcohol and prescription painkiller Vicodin in her system.

The evidence supports Spector?s statement, though reports taken at the time of the murder have the producer on record as saying "I think I killed somebody" to his driver.

The evidence hearing is scheduled for May 21, where the full contents of the report will be considered.

As previously reported on NME.COM, Spector has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and was released on $1 million bail. He was accused of murder after Clarkson was found dead in his mansion in Los Angeles on February 3, 2003.

Neither Spector, or the attorney's office from which the report was leaked, have commented on the reports contents.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
