'Expendables 2,' 'Abraham Lincoln' Posters Promise Action Aplenty

You will be forgiven for not expecting nuance in the promotional material for "[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/475178/moviemain.jhtml"]The Expendables 2[/url]." Despite what the marketing team might think, there doesn't need to be much other than a list of names against a black background, maybe crafted out of bullets or fire or blood.

You know those names -- Stallone, Statham, Li, Willis, Van Damme, and Schwarzenegger, to name a few -- and what the first "Expendables" movie was about. [url="http://www.aintitcool.com/node/52302"]The new one-sheet[/url] shows Stallone standing in the frame of a "2" carved out of concrete, lit ablaze against a rocky foreground. Stallone is holding a gun, and he means business, all business. How could you expect anything different? "Expendables 2" drops in the summer, when we'll all be thirsting for just a little more action than the norm.

On the contrary, [url="http://movies.ign.com/dor/objects/63794/abraham-lincoln-vampire-hunter/images/abraham-lincoln-vampire-hunter-20111214064235670.html"]the poster[/url] for "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" teases the action, rather than dumping us right in it. There's Honest Abe sitting in a chair underneath a full moon, holding his hat in one hand and an axe in the other. We can't see his face, but we don't need to.

The serious tone is befitting of the very serious official synopsis, which reads, "'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter' explores the secret life of our greatest President, and the untold story that shaped our nation." Because, yes, all of that happened. The Confederacy was led by vampires, and Abe himself rode out on horseback to slay their leader, Jefferson Dracula. His hat was made of magic, his beard made of silver, and night hunters everywhere trembled wherever he walked. I need to believe it; I [i]want[/i] to believe it.

"Vampire Hunter" hits theaters next summer, on June 22.
