A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, there were no sexy vampires whose skin sparkled in the sunlight--and that's exactly how some fans prefer it. A new, unexpected rivalry seems to be heating up between two science fiction franchises against the "Twilight" series, and the person leading the charge is an equally unexpected party.

Get details on that new feud and more as we look around the blogosphere today!

George Takei Declares "Star" War
After months of half-joking, half-serious back-and-forths between celebrities well known for their association with the "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" franchises, "Trek" icon George Takei has called for peace between the two fan bases in favor of war against another: the "Twilight" series. Takei, who played Sulu in the original "Trek" series, posted a three-minute video calling the values of "Twilight" into question, while championing the ideas put forth by both "Star" brands. Click here to watch the full video, found at Huffington Post. Whose side are you on?

"Star" Snow
In further, more pleasant "Star Wars" news, it's time to celebrate the classic science fiction property with a holiday special! No, not that holiday special, we're not going to ruin your day like that. Instead, we'll direct your attention to Blastr, who posted five amazing "Star Wars" paper snowflakes along with instructions on how to make them. Very cool project for the whole nerdy family!

"Rise" of the Graffiti
More cool art to enjoy today, but for a very different science fiction franchise. The Los Angeles Times points out some amazing "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" graffiti art seen in the City of Angels. Australian artist Anthony Lister was reportedly hired by 20th Century Fox to create the "Apes"-minded mural on Melrose Avenue, and perhaps for the very first time in my entire life, I'm going to mutter these words: I wish I was in LA right now.

"Walking" Shirt
Finally, forwarded my way from Twitter user @curtisblack72 comes this incredibly awesome "Walking Dead" T-shirt starring Norman Reedus' impossibly awesome Daryl Dixon. "Got bit. Fever hit. World gone to s---. Might as well quit," reads the shirt, calling back to the famous tree-hanging zombie from earlier this season. Not sure that I'll take the plunge myself, but if any of you fine folks out there want to get me this as a holiday gift, well, I wouldn't complain!

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
