'Lego' Movie Greenlit, Adds 'Robot Chicken' Director Chris McKay

Don't act like you didn't see this one coming. "[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/413695/moviemain.jhtml"]Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs[/url]" writer-directors [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/1065901/personmain.jhtml"]Phil Lord[/url] and [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/363658/personmain.jhtml"]Chris Miller[/url]'s planned "Lego" movie has officially received a go-ahead.

[url="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118046055?refCatId=13"][i]Variety[/i][/url] reports that Warner Bros has greenlit the project with a planned 2014 release date. About 80 percent of the project will be animated, which actually is pretty good news. And even better news is that "Robot Chicken" director Chris McKay has been brought it to co-co-direct the project.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film is planned to be an action-adventure. It will be set in the Lego world, but also will include some live-action characters. That casting process is set to begin in January.

Considering what a success all the Lego-themed video games have been, there's actually a pretty big chance that a "Lego" movie won't be half bad. If you can get behind a movie based on "Battleship," a project with at least as much creative range as the Lego franchise should have your support as well. (Despite that, I'm placing a bet right now that a competing K'nex movie with a similar release date will be greenlit within the next few months. Who's with me?)

Hopefully the film will be a goofy, sarcastic match up of Lord, Miller and McKay's sensibilities. At least they've all proven themselves to be adept helmers of animated films.
