Russian ballet spectacular for May

A Summer Ballet Gala will be staged in Dublin's National Concert Hall, Dublin from 26 to 30 May.

The performances will feature the Tchaikovsky Perm State Ballet of Russia, including Irish ballerina Monica Loughman.

The music will be provided by the Irish Ballet Orchestra, conducted by prominent Russian conductor Valery Platanov.

The Gala will feature excerpts from popular ballets including 'Romeo and Juliet', 'Swan Lake' and 'The Nutcracker' alongside some contemporary pieces.

The Summer Ballet Gala will run from 26 to 30 May with an evening performance on each date and a matinee performance on Saturday 29 May.

Tickets are available from the National Concert Hall.

Russian Ballet Stars Back in Bulgaria

Soloists of the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre will once again stage major performances in Bulgaria.

Bulgarian fans will enjoy "Swan Lake" and "La Bayadere" on May 9 and 10. This would be the fourth visit of soloists of the Russian Bolshoi Theatre to the country.

The main stars of the two performances will be Nadezhda Grachova and Vladimir Neporozhnii.

Nadezhda Alexandrovna Grachova's remarkable career started at the Choreographic Institute of Alma Ata in Kazakstan in 1978, when she was nine. In 1988 she joined the Bolshoi Ballet. She is laureate dancer of Russian Federation for her performance in Spartacus, Legend of Love, Giselle, and La Bayadere.

Neporozhnii graduated at the Moscow Choreographic School and joined Bolshoi Theatre in 1991.

      You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention. 
      But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
