About a third of the way into "The Black Angel" by John Connolly. If you've not read this guy before, then go out and pick one of his efforts up.... but be warned, you need to start from his first ("Every Dead Thing") as a lot of things won't make sense if you don't.

Oh, and they aren't for people of a nervous disposition either.....

How is it? I used to read all his stuff when he was more prolific

It is very autobiographical... it really shows that KV was not expecting to live so long. He is retrospective and talks about his brother's death. It isn't the best Vonnegut, but it is still worth reading.

I'm about a third of the way through "40 Words for Sorrow" by Giles Blunt. He wrote a novel back in 1989 but this is really his first proper effort having spent the last few years writing scripts for among other things Law and Order.

Anyway... if you're a thriller fan then buy this book. It is brilliant. It's possibly the best book I've read in 2 or 3 years.

Da Vinci trial pits history against art

Millionaire author is expected in London for plagiarism case

Nothing less than the future of Western literature is at stake in the High Court tomorrow. Or so the publisher of The Da Vinci Code, the money-spinning blockbuster by Dan Brown, is expected to argue in a ground-breaking trial.

Brown, whose tale of clerical conspiracy and murder has become the bestselling hardback adult novel of all time, is accused of plundering his plot from a non-fiction work called The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail

This doesn't surprise me. I was interested at one time in making a movie of the former. The Da Vinci Code is a rip off

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
