Micronesian states gather in Saipan for three-day arts festival

Island nations in Micronesia are gathering on Saipan for a three-day festival of arts.

From the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Gemma Casas reports.

The 23rd Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival which will kick-off tomorrow, Friday, will showcase the culture and art of Pohnpei, Palau, the Philippines, Japan, Tahiti, Hawaii, Yap, China, the CNMI, Guam and Korea. Participants come to Saipan every year for indigenous dances, songs, and displays of art and crafts. Founder, Anna Teregeyo says the annual festival - which began in 1981 - promotes and protects Micronesian indigenous art from western influences.
