Brad Pitt Is 'The Gray Man,' 'Spider-Man' Musical Meets Jeff Buckley

[url="http://www.deadline.com/2011/08/brad-pitt-in-talks-for-foxs-the-gray-man/"]Deadline[/url] has the news that Pitt will be starring in the James Gray-directed flick. "The Gray Man," an adaptation of Mark Greaney's thriller novel of the same name, follows a former CIA agent-turned-assassin as he fights his way around the globe to save his handler and the handler's family. Deadline believes that filming will start in early 2012.

[b]From "Spider-Man" To The "Last Goodbye"[/b]
"Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" star Reeve Carney has been cast in an as-yet-untitled Jeff Buckley biopic. [url="http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1669113/jeff-buckley-biopic-reeve-carney.jhtml"]MTV News[/url] has the full scoop, including a history of Buckley biopic projects that have been circling around Hollywood. "Welcome To The Rileys" helmer Jake Scott is directing this latest attempt. Carney will do all of his own singing.

[b]Anna Paquin And Ryan Phillippe Get "Straight A's"[/b]
[url="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118041358"][i]Variety[/i][/url] has learned that [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/166324/personmain.jhtml"]Anna Paquin[/url] and [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/168235/personmain.jhtml"]Ryan Phillippe[/url] have been cast in the upcoming comedy "Straight A's." Phillippe will play a man who spent the previous decade in and out of rehab, and is urged to return home by his dead mother's ghost. When he returns to his family, he discovers that his brother's wife, played by Paquin, still has feelings for him. "Wonderland" helmer James Cox will be directing the flick.

[b]Jason Bateman And Melissa McCarthy Join "ID Theft"[/b]
[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/267429/personmain.jhtml"]Melissa McCarthy[/url] has become one of the hottest female comedians in Hollywood thanks to her breakout role in "Bridesmaids," and now [url="http://www.deadline.com/2011/08/jason-bateman-melissa-mccarthy-team-for-the-id-theft/"]Deadline[/url] has learned she will be teaming up with [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/4010/personmain.jhtml"]Jason Bateman[/url] for an upcoming comedy. They'll be starring in Universal's "ID Theft," which follows Bateman after he gets his identity stolen by McCarthy's character. Filming should begin in April 2012.

[b]Walter Goggins Comes On Board "G.I. Joe: Retaliation"[/b]
Walter Goggins is the latest actor to come on board "[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/476760/moviemain.jhtml"]G.I. Joe: Retaliation[/url]." [url="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118041347"][i]Variety[/i][/url] has the news that the "Justified" actor will be playing a character named Warden Nigel James. It's unclear whether this will be a good or bad guy in the flick. Goggins is joining the star-studded cast that includes Channing Tatum, Bruce Willis, Dwayne Johnson and Ray Stevenson. Filming begins later this month.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
      You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention. 
      But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
