Young Money diva Nicki Minaj is having a great 2011. Already a part of two successful tours, a hot-selling Pink Friday album and scores of fans the world over, the Queens native and former acting student has turned her sights onto Hollywood.

Last week, entertainment magazine Variety reported via their website that the rapper would be joining the cast of Ice Age: Continental Shift – the fourth film in the long-running animated franchise. MTV News spoke with Minaj while backstage in New Jersey during a stop on the Femme Fatale tour featuring headlining pop star Britney Spears.

“I don't know how much I can talk about that, but I came about that when my agency sent me out on an audition for some people who wanted to hear me," shared Minaj. "They knew I liked animation, they knew I liked to do voices, and so they said they were doing that so I thought, 'This is amazing.' Even more amazing for Nicki Minaj is that she was initially denied the original role she read for but was called in by the film’s producers to read for another part written specifically for the star to which Nicki said she was “so excited” over the opportunity.

A few Nicki Minaj fans on Twitter have chimed in about her upcoming role with most speculating over which of the rapper’s many voices she would employ for the role. “Will @NICKIMINAJ be using her British accent in the new movie "Ice Age 4"?” tweeted fan @DaNYCGossipGirl. Exited fan @_AllSheWrote added, “Everyone is going to go see #IceAge4 bc Nicki Minaj voice was casted as one of the roles.. I will be there : ]” – echoing a growing sentiment amongst Minaj fans. Some users were not as enthused, however. “Nicki Minaj has a horrible talking voice imo. And I can't believe she is already in a freaaking movie,” said an annoyed @Cheers2Rih.

Ice Age: Continental Shift is slated for a July 2012 release, right at the height of the blockbuster days of summer.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
