In this 1926 silent film comedy classic, Buster Keaton plays a Confederate train engineer in pursuit of his locomotive and the woman he loves. Keaton not only directed the film, he performed his own stunts. The film is based on Lieutenant William Pittenger's "The Great Locomotive Chase", a true Civil War story. The movie failed at the box office, but is considered one of Hollywood's greatest movies.

Generally is widely considered Buster Keaton's best film, a masterpiece; I agree. Keaton is my favorite of all of the silent film era comedian, in general, his combination of seriousness of purpose, great attention to detail, a lot of good comedy. In this perfect mixture, it was like Charlie Chaplin's The Great Dictator.

Have you ever seen Chapin's Modern Times? It's hilarious. I also like the silent dramas-- DW Griffith's Way Down East and King Vidor's The Crowd. They still hold up today.

Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
