Björn Åkesson was born in 1986, in a town called Lund (southern Sweden). He first noticed electronic music in the middle of the 90′s when he heard music from a videogame called Wipeout 2097. With artists such as Future Sound of London, The Prodigy and Orbital the interest grew. A few years later a friend from school introduced Björn to trance/club music. This sounded a lot better and much more interesting than the techno he had heard before. In early 2003 Björn teamed up with a fellow swedish producer for a collab. The track was called Havannah – Havannah’. Havannah was played by top DJ’s like Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Johan Gielen, The Thrillseekers and many others.

After this collaboration Björn continued making his own tunes and few years later he luanched the “Akesson” project which made a big impact on Above & Beyonds radioshow ‘Trance Around The World’.In early 2008 the track ‘Perfect Blue’ was introduced to the world as ‘Tune Of The Week’ by Armin van Buuren on his huge radioshow ‘A State Of Trance’. Both Sunchaser and Perfect Blue was very well recieved by the trance community and appeared on several big compilations mixed by world class DJ’s and released by huge recordcompanies such as Sony BGM, EMI and Ministry Of Sound. This is surely the beginning of a very successful music career for the talented young man.Today you can find Björn on his way out to the clubs all over Europe making his epic DJ appearances. The Digital Society Podcast 046 with Max Graham

Max Graham

Max Graham was born in London, England and lived in Spain, New York City and Los Angeles before settling in Ottawa in 1989. At age 15 in 1986, he began as a hip-hop and scratch DJ before discovering and falling in love with the house music scene between 1992 and 1994. Max was also instrumental in the creation of the famous Atomic club in Ottawa, and his weekly 6 hour sets at Atomic are the stuff of legend among fans. Max exploded onto the producing scene with the releases of “Airtight” and “Tell You,” both of which became international hits. Airtight was nominated for a Juno Award in 2001. This success got some attention from the world dance music scene and Graham was asked to mix Tranceport CD #4, which was also met with huge success, and spurred a world tour in 2001.

This rapid rise in attention led Graham to be voted into spot number 23 on DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs list, the highest entry for a newcomer in 2001. His distinctive style remains difficult to pin down, covering genres like house, progressive, techno, disco, and trance to name just some. During a Graham performance, a collection of different sounds can be heard in every aspect of the tracks being played: the bass, rhythms, and melodies constantly change and energize the audience and dancers at Graham’s sets.

Of his most recent releases 'Tears In The Rain' was a worldwide smash at the start of 2009, and 'Things That Happen', released later in 2009 found major support with the likes of Armin van Buuren. The Digital Society Podcast 048 with Ferry Tayle

Ferry Tayle

French producer & DJ Ferry Tayle was born in 1982. His first musical experience was with jazz. He started playing the saxophone at the age of 7. He became interested in electronic music by discovering Jean-Michel Jarre's first album. After 14 years of jazz music he decided to move into electronic music. He bought his first decks in 1999 and began to DJ. In 2000, he took his first steps in his professional development in the biggest club in the east of France called "Le Colysée". In just one year he had the chance to share the decks with some big names like Cosmic Gate, Darude, U96 and very well known French house DJ, David Guetta.
Later, he met and became friends with Nicolas "Cosmic Dreams", DJ & founder of Elektro-Shock, a French electronic music association. During some different events with Elektro-Shock, Ferry met TonKs, and became best friends. In 2001, he created his first project under the name Blackmoon Traxx with his two friends, Stephan & Vincent. After several unfruitful productions it was their remix of Ohm Boys - Thinking of You, one of Alex M.O.R.P.H.'s projects, which was released on Red Silver Rec. (a UK label) & brought Ferry Tayle & Blackmoon Traxx into the public scene.

During the summer 2004, Ferry Tayle & TonKs had the honor of sharing the decks with Rank 1 & Alex M.O.R.P.H. during the first big trance event in France. Following this event, Ferry decided to combine the TonKs' sound with Blackmoon Traxx. In November 2004, the new project Everest was born. In December, in search of a vocalist for this project, he met Tashita, a female Belgian artist. In 2005, Everest made their first track called Orée. Released in April 2006 on famous UK label Monster Tunes, Orée was the first turn in Ferry's career. In 2005 the track was featured on famous compilations like Sensation White Holland Edition (ID&T) and Technoclub Next Vol. 2 mixed by the legendary Talla 2XLC, and was massively supported by Paul van Dyk (2 times voted as the best DJ in the world), Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Robert Gitelman, and Stoneface & Terminal.

The Digital Society Podcast 050 Special with Marcel Woods

A studio powerhouse on many levels, Marcel Woods has spent his career making his own path, leapfrogging stereotypes and diminishing musical barriers, and nowhere else is this more evident than in the psychosis of his self-stylised world, where his Musical inner-demons run free against the typecast Madness.
Exactly what doesn’t fit is Marcel’s mind-blowing mix of raw and energetic dance music. Dance floors and festivals have fallen before him in swift succession. Global Gathering, Mysteryland, Dance Valley, Trance Energy, Gatecrasher Summer Sound System, Escape Into The Park, Planet Love and Sanctuary just in one summer run! And possibly more than anything else underlining Marcel’s diverse nature, 2008 saw him become the only DJ ever to play the White AND Black Edition Sensation parties in one season.

Having mixed successful compilations for Dance Valley (2005) High Contrast (2006) and Trance Energy (2008), later in 2008 saw a fresh new concept boil out from underneath Marcel’s creative hat. Released back in October 2008 on High Contrast Recordings, 'Musical Madness 2008' was the cornerstone of Marcel’s musical philosophy; a belief he has always explored in his career.

The time Marcel’s not spent DJing around the world promoting his sound, he’s spent locked in the studio working on his unique sounds. His ‘Everything’ charted #1 in early 2010 across all major download stores including Beatport, and follow-ups 'The Bottle' and 'Tomorrow' also topped charts and playlists. Rare remix projects like his official rework of Tiësto 'Escape Me' and his underground bootlegs of Zombie Nation 'Kernkraft 400' and Danny Tenaglia 'Music Is The Answer' caught the attention of virtually every festival goer this past year.

The Digital Society Podcast 050 Special with Cressida

"Where the power of words ends, the music begins“.

Following that credo, German producer Matthias Baumann was instantly amazed, as he - at a very young age in front of a piano – discovered, that only three little notes, put together in the right direction and played with a certain sound, are sufficient to evoke emotions.
Even more, those same notes could trigger different emotions in different people, depending on so many different factors.

Take this still existing childlike exaltation, add a never ending curiousness for diverse and unique sounds and musical styles, mash it up with a distinct fondness for groove in every sense, and you got Cressida.
This progressive trance act was launched in 2005 by Matthias together with Roland Geringer, who shared the same musical background the same passion for EDM back then. Working together for almost three years and gaining instant recognition for their tracks and remixes, the project Cressida never stopped growing and so did the list of labels they worked for, including Lost Language, Baroque Records, Afterglow, Ava Recordings, Somatic Sense, Alter Ego Records and Enhanced Records, only to name a few.

The Digital Society Podcast 052 with Menno De Jong

Menno De Jong

Master of numerous music industry disciplines, Menno de Jong has already etched as many notches on the dance tree as someone twice his age. He has recorded for some of Europe’s biggest Trance labels and is the founder of lauded Dutch independent imprint, Intuition Recordings. A bona-fide Podcast pioneer, he’s produced and presented the widely-syndicated, much-downloaded Intuition Radio show for the last 5 years. In 2009 he went back into DJ Magazine’s Top 100 Chart for the fourth successive year (at No. 56) and near-simultaneously took the No.13 position in TranceAddict’s Biggest 250 Trance DJs Poll. With his “Trance in the broadest sense” DJ and production mindset he is, without question, the next challenger to the Dutch dance throne.

Born into a musical family it was a natural step for Menno to start experimenting with the array of equipment gathered in his father’s studio. In 2004 he launched his production career in propitious fashion when his very first track ‘Guanxi’ was inked to Anjunabeats. The devoted music workaholic, Menno has continued to summon one rapturous moment after another from his studio. ‘Magma’/‘Momentum’ and ‘Sjamaan’ were released on Fundamental (in 2005 & 2007 respectively), while ‘Tundra’ (2005) and ‘Nolthando’/ ‘Solid State’ (2007) have provided rocket fuel for his own label Intuition Recordings.

The Digital Society Podcast 053 with Tritonal

Tritonal

If success were measured musically, Tritonal would be on the highway to achieving the great American dream. At any given moment, their music is fueling a sing-along through a spin on the stereo airwaves or tearing up a dance floor at a packed club or festival. They have crossed musical and geographical boundaries and amazed us with their production luminaries and captivating live shows. But take of all that apart, and these talented guys just really want to inspire and to be inspired, blessed with the ability and means to do so.

It is this very reason why Dave Reed and Chad Cisneros, two extremely humble individuals from Austin, Texas, combined forces by chance in 2007 to venture into the dance realm. As they would say it, they "complete each other's musical sentences." In that process, Tritonal came to life. Within the short span of the last 2 years, they have charged into the arena and have fast-tracked into chalking up more accolades and accomplishments than some producers or DJs ever will in a lifetime. Despite a very crowded and almost overpopulated trance scene, inhabitants of Planet Dance have generously embraced Tritonal. Amidst the great wave of fresh names flooding the dance arena, they manage to stand out with their ability to evolve and accomplish, and they are the best candidates to put America and trance music on the map.

The Digital Society Podcast 054 with Bryan Kearney

Bryan Kearney

Bryan Kearney began DJing in the year 2000 and in this time has established himself firmly on the international dance scene. His sets contain the very best in upfront trance and techno with the emphasis always on energy and the unexpected.
He was a permanent fixture on the airwaves of Dublin throughout 2002 and 2003 with prime time shows on Energy Fm and Kiss Fm providing the capital with the very best in brand new material each week. In 2003, Bryan began his own night Tranceformation in the Crypt at the legendary Temple Theatre. At the same time, he had began to get into producing and obtained a Higher National Diploma in Sound Operations and Music Technology. His collaboration with John O'Callaghan entitled Restricted Motion was signed to Discover Records by label boss John Askew.
His track with O'Callaghan, Exactly, singed to Discover Records was regarded by many as the track of the Winter Music Conferance 06, and became a firm favourite of Armin Van Buuren and Paul Van Dyk. It was remixed by one of his idols, Giuseppe Ottaviani of NU-NRG, and was requested for no less than thirty album compilations. The track is considered by many to be a modern day classic and was the biggest track of 2006. Further releases on Discover and GRH Recordings followed on from this.

2008 continued on with Bryan receiving two nominations at the Irish Dance Music Awards - Best DJ & Best New Artist. His full on tech workout of J.O.C's Rotterdam was a huge success on Sander Van Doorn's brand new label. Other releases releases included his tech house monster ' The Walrus ' on Full Tilt Recordings, a track that received support right across the board of dance music. Bryan's biggest track of the year was a track which was dedicated to his friend Barry Connell who unfortunately passed away in April of that year. 'You Will Never Be Forgotten' was released on Discover Records and was a fitting tribute to Barry. With gigs on a weekly basis throughout Ireland and the UK and also further afield in Poland and Australia. Performances for Goodgreef, Inside Out & Planet Love were followed up by playing at two of the biggest festivals in the world. Sunrise Festival in Poland was Bryan's finest hour to date with his set being voted as second best set of the entire festival ahead of the likes of Tiesto, James Zabiela and many more. Bryan also featured at the world's leading dance event Sensation White in Melbourne, Australia on New Years Eve, a night and experience that will live long in memory.

The Digital Society Podcast 055 with Temple One

Temple One

Born in 1986 and hailing from the southern part of England, Joe found a passion for music in his early childhood and at age 10 he found a love for electronic music. He began to collect all kinds of Trance music he could get hold of and found great inspiration in the old Gatecrasher Compilations. An urge to try out the art of DJ'ing lead to Joe spending most of his time learning to master the decks, soon enough Joe wanted to take things further and decided to take up producing, starting off with programs like Ejay and Music 2000 he got a taste for producing and moved on to more advanced programs such as Cubase, Logic and Reason. From there, Joe never looked back!

In 2006, Joe got his first release with a two track EP on Trance Revolution Recordings, and with guys like Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten and Matt Hardwick supporting the tune, a whole new world opened up for the young talented Englishman.
Joe joined Enhanced Music in 2006 following his release on Trance Revolution Recordings and continued to make quite an impact on the Trance scene. Besides remixing guys like Alex M.O.P.R.H and Woody Van Eyden, he released a 3 track EP on Enhanced that further solidified his position as one of the young bright minds of the UK trance scene. The Aurora EP got huge support all over the world by the likes of Tisto, Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten and Above & Beyond. Joe didnt hesitate to take things further and quickly became one of the most requested guys in the scene working with labels such as Armada, Flashover, Monster Tunes and of course, Enhanced Recordings.

In 2009, Joe stepped up the mark with tracks like 'Sahara Nights' and the more Tech fuelled number 'Betelgeuse' along with a string of high profile remixes all topping the download charts. Joe also mixed the first Enhanced Sessions CD Compilation alongside fellow producer Estiva which followed with several tour dates. In 2009 Lazarus and James Alexander kicked off the launch of their label Defcon Recordings with the release of their debut artist production Defcon Audio – Trailblazer, which earned widespread support from the likes of Manuel Le Saux, Pedro Del Mar, as well as Ferry Corsten once again.
They have been working on an artist album in-between concentrating on their label work, due for release on Defcon in 2012, but remixes of album tracks such as Theme From Defcon and Lost In You, with the latter due for full release this Spring.

The Digital Society Podcast 063 with Estiva

Estiva

Steven Baan, better known as the man behind the project Estiva, has grown to be somewhat of a household name recently. Operating out of the city of Reeuwijk in western Holland, Stevens flair for a beautiful melodic take on progressive trance has gotten the nod of approval from every part of the scene of electronic dance music.
Born just before Christmas in 1987, Steven was the youngest in the household with two big brothers and experienced a nice safe childhood. The passion for trance comes from the summer, as well as countless hours listening to shows like “A State Of Trance” and the legendary “In Search Of Sunrise” compilation series by fellow Dutchman Tiësto.

In the early years Steven played around with different sequencers trying to find one that fitted him, and when he started using FL Studio things really started to take off for him and he finished the EP “Estiva Pres. Sunover – Stella” in 2007 which found its way to the UK-based label Enhanced Recordings, a label that Steven has stayed with since then.
Another milestone in Stevens career was when he joined forces with his friend Marninx on the track “Casa Grande” which got handpicked for Tiësto for the 7th edition of his “In Search Of Sunrise”-series which according to Steven himself was nothing short of “a dream coming true”.

Now all eyes were upon Steven, and his next EP “Strawberry Frields” got support from the likes of Tiësto, Armin Van Buuren and Ferry Corsten. With his unique take on progressive trance Steven just kept working hard in the studio and besides doing remixes for labels like Anjunabeats, Coldharbour & Fraction, he stunned everyone with the EP “Les Fleurs” that really showcased the versatility that Steven possessed getting support from Tiësto, Markus Schulz, Lange & Solarstone.

Over the second half of 2009 and early 2010 another EP was released on Enhanced, “I Feel Fine” yet again showcased Steven’s talent and gathered support from the likes of Above & Beyond and Armin Van Buuren. Meanwhile Steven teamed up with label-partner Temple One for the track “November Lovely” and early 2010 came what appears to be the most popular Estiva EP as of then titled “Friends & Enemies” with early support all over the board including Tiësto, Armin Van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Markus Schulz & Judge Jules. Later on that year he surprised the scene with his “The Kingdom” and “Adamas”, both of the EP’s were trademark Estiva pieces.

The Digital Society Podcast 065 with Juventa

Juventa

Jordin Post, also known as Juventa - This young producer from The Netherlands has been active since late 2009 and made the step from small labels to the bigger players before the end of 2010. He already managed to create himself a good fundemental discography with releases findable on labels like Infrasonic, Anjunabeats, and now also Enhanced, kicking off on this label with his debut EP "For That Special Girl / Just An Emotion".

Unknown to most of the people until is hit remix of André Glensks "Polish Pierogi", Jordin is now fastly becoming a resident, and supports of his tracks from A-list DJs can be expected for every single release. Early 2010 he also had the honour to get his remix of the legendary "Larry Mountains 54" compiled on Anjunabeats Volume 8, which gave his name a huge boost. His EP on Enhanced is moving on with the waves it caused and will be followed by more very promising originals and remixes.

His trademark sound must be the combination of an uplifting Trance base with various progressive elements through it. "It's just great when you post some samples on the internet, and people are like "hey, I recognise this. Sounds like Juventa!".
Jordin's main objective is to provide his listeners with quality and emotional music. The genre doesn't matter, since Trance isn't the only style this guy is producing.
"Sometimes I just feel like I have to make something completely different. The result can be a track like "Ruby" or "Attained Dreams", two Lounge-styled tracks that were featured on a compilation called "Lounge Top 100", which was compiled by Cloud9 Music (Who are also my publisher by the way). I also do Breaks sometimes, and if I'm in the mood some firm Progressive can be the final product too. You'll hear an examples of that on Enhanced Progressive!"

A 'new name on the trance horizon', with a bright future ahead.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
