When do you get the error?? It might be whatever program you're using is the problem rather than your OS... if everything else is working ok.

I'm no expert though... so maybe you should seek a geek :D

Wasn't it the SVChost thingy that MS had security problems with?

I'm sure it was a combi of SVChost and the Remote Call Procedure that caused all those problems not so recently.

Anyways, I've got 6 instances [of SVChost] running - should I worry, or is my computer just different?

Please, I'm already frieghtened at what MS can know about me, please re-assure me that this SVChost processs is nowt to worry about...

please. :(

probably nothing to worry about.... I have 6 or 7 of them running.... it depends on what programs you have that depend on that process how many instances you see in the task manager.... so I think it should vary from one computer to the next.

you can always get a little program like win task to tell you what each of those is for.

Here's an advice to all. Use Sygate Personal Firewall (try to get the pro) and AVG antivirus. Do not use any other fiewall like Zone Alarm or other anti-virus like Norton or Mcaffee.

Trust me on this one. The single reason is that they are better and lighter for your pc. Do not forget to update both.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
