'Monstrous' $2m download fine slashed

Condemning a $2 million fine meted out to a Minnesota woman for illegally downloading music over the internet as "monstrous and shocking", a judge has slashed the penalty to $US54,000 ($59,800).

The ruling could have significant implications for the treatment of music distribution in the US as it sets a financial limit on the impact of illegal media sharing.

The judge is going the right way. He reduced the damages over 97%. He just needs to do that a couple of more times and then he would be in the ballpark.
