To be fair:

The Slim Shady LP - Eminem

The Marshall Mathers LP - Eminem

The Eminem Show - Eminem

He's made rap accessible to a whole crowd of people that never bothered to even check rap out before.

Personally, I'd put:

House Of Pain - House Of Pain

Jump Around - House Of Pain

Cypress Hill - Cypress Hill

Black Sunday - Cypress Hill

They're who got me interested.

rap would still be here. I think they had nothing to do with rap. Yes, they made some cool hits back then but grandmaster flash and run dmc along with tone loc made rap what it is today.

I'd add Ice T, the Beastie Boys and Notorious B.I.G...

I think the roots of rap go back to the big band era... Check out this Andy Razaf (Reefer Man, Aint MisBehavin') tune "That's What I like About the South", which was recorded in 1937. Call it country rap, and its somewhat corny, but it was a precursor to what we know today as Rap:

- Tone Loc

- Sugar Hill Gang

- 2 Live Crew

- Young M.C.

Glad I'm not the only one who put Sugarhill Gang. How can anyone forget the original rappers delight?

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
