The Beatles come to the Internet... on some site you've never heard of. But BlueBeat.com insists that its unlimited streaming and cheap downloads are legal. And the company behind it has sent cease-and-desist letters to the likes of Apple over alleged DMCA violations.

BlueBeat Website Claims It Owns Copyrights to Beatles Songs....

News spread like wildfire this week that a website called BlueBeat is being sued for copyright infringement for selling and streaming Beatles songs — the first time the tunes have been available digitally.

Defendants' Opposition to TRO in Capitol v. BlueBeat

A Los Angeles federal judge set aside arguments from Hank Risan, owner of BlueBeat and other companies named as defendants in the lawsuit EMI filed on Tuesday. I think BlueBeat.com is done. You can stick them with a fork to be sure but I think they are well done. I don't see them winning this one. The nerve of that company to sell a lossy copy for 25 cents a track when you can get the entire albums in lossless for free. Cyberspace, search engines and large hard drives!! Gotta love 'em!!

You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
