My roommate just came home. His offices are in the House of Blues building, which was formerly the Motown Building. He was pretty upset - he knew Michael and had even been to his house. He said in real life Michael Jackson was like Peter Pan - he never grew up.

I never met him. But I did know his film producer - and was invited to to see Michael perform. Michael Jackson had offices in the same building as I did at Sony Pictures - but I don't think he ever went there. I also knew his attorney at one point - but Michael switched those fairly regularly

Watch HERE for the live announcement from the LA Coroner

RE: Coroner Case Number 2009-04415 - JACKSON, Michael Joseph

The Los Angeles County Department of Coroner conducted an autopsy on the body of Michael Joseph Jackson, age 50, on June 26, 2009.

The cause of death has been DEFERRED pending the receipt of additional toxicological tests and tissue studies that have been ordered by the medical examiner.

There will be no final ruling as to the cause and manner of death until the requested test results have been received and reviewed in context with the autopsy findings. It is anticipated that this process may take as long as 4 to 6 weeks to complete.

UK Sun blames a lethal dose of demerol. UK Daily Mail suggests he was taking a cocktail of potentially lethal drugs daily, and that He Predicted His Own Death Months Ago.

On the other hand, The Missourian suggests he was energized and focused and ready to revive his career

Wow - shocking news.

All the music channels are only playing MJ music and I was just in town and his music is blearing out of all the clubs and bars.

All top 5 albums on iTunes and 7 of the top 10 are Michael Jackson.

Despite all the tasteless jokes people have been texting me all day, it looks like there is a chance people might remember him for his music.

Michael Jackson tributes spread worldwide....

Five of Jacksons solo albums Off the Wall, Thriller, Bad, Dangerous and HIStory, all with Epic Records, a Sony Music label are among the top-sellers of all time. During his extraordinary career, he sold an estimated 750 million records worldwide, released 13 No.1 singles and became one of a handful of artists to be inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Guinness Book of World Records recognized Jackson as the Most Successful Entertainer of All Time and Thriller as the Biggest Selling Album of All Time. Jackson won 13 Grammy Awards and received the American Music Awards Artist of the Century Award.

Michael Jackson started in the music business at the age of 11 with his brothers as a member of the Jackson 5. In the early 1980s, he defined the art form of music video with such ground-breaking videos as Billie Jean, Beat It and the epic Thriller. Jacksons sound, style and dance moves inspired subsequent generations of pop, soul, R&B and hip-hop artists.

Probably Britney's best performance - she looks good in that piece; or maybe Michael brought out the best in her. In case you wondered, they teamed at "Michael Jackson 30th Anniversary Celebration" 2001.

Bob Lefsetz of the The Lefsetz Letter:

The King Is Dead

He missed his childhood and now he’s gonna miss his old age.

How fucked up is that?

Michael Jackson never had a chance. He had to succeed for his family, his parents’ dreams were dependent upon him.

And a boy with that much pressure delivers. He works truly hard, so he will be loved. That’s all Michael Jackson was looking for, love.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
