Closure of US Virgin Music Megastores shows signs CDs are dying

Two major music CD retailers have closed in America over the weekend, and it seems after almost 30 years, the reign of the compact disc could be over.

I rarely buy a big selling cd. I am looking for the hard to find items and those can't be found at Best Buy and such. What few cds I buy, I get on Amazon or ebay. I remember years ago browsing through tons of stuff at some larger cd retailers. Oh well...

You know what Dude, I will keep that in mind. Thanks. I don't buy many and what few I buy are available at Amazon or ebay. I have paid funny money a few times. Does Amoeba have old vinyl albums or are they cd only?

They might even have some 78s and 45s :o ... not sure.

They carry plenty of vinyl and cds

Someone has just asked me for my vinyl records - I have about 50 in storage. I'm sure they are all great stuff - I will let you know and you can grab what you like.

      You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention. 
      But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
