I switched from winamp to musicmatch it seemed like winamp used alot of resources but I still get some freezing when I startup, does the new version of winamp solve that?

musicmatch is not a player only. What exactly do you need? Winamp is the best player

I use musicmatch as just a player, I've been using nero for most everything else, except to rip I use cdex, I was just trying to find something that used the least amount of resources as just a player so I can fun a few programs at the same time

if you want a player with the least resources possible then use winamp 2.8 or 2.9. The most popular software on the net EVER. If you want a really good player with few resources and a few cool skins then use winamp 5.03. Just don't install the video stuff when it asks in the exe

foobar was created by an ex winamp programmer. He sucks. Many people consider foobar good but they don't know. Always get my advice. They suck... I don't! :)

I don't even remember what lame problems I had with winamp 5 when I tried it. Random things started doing weird things, and I switched back to 2.91.

2.91 is quite good enough for me. :)

When winamp 3.0 Full came out it was nothing but a resource hog. I too switched back to 2.91 after realizing this.

The new 5 versions rock compared to 3.0, with zero issues. Nullsoft scraped the 3.0 project all together and went back to drawing board. I personally enjoy the new winamp and wont be switching for a long time.

Here's my unscientific study of resource use. Winamp5 is pretty low. WMP9 isn't brutal either. Fancy skins and dsp plugins can easily double cpu and memory usage.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
