The Gilles Peterson Worldwide Awards returns to Cargo for its annual celebration of the best music championed by Gilles Peterson on his Worldwide and Radio 1 show. The awards, hosted by Gilles Peterson, are an annual celebration of all the best new music that has come through this year on his show, with some of the best new acts performing on the night. This year it will be a very special celebration as it marks the start of the 10th Anniversary of the Worldwide Radio show.

The final line-up for the awards will be announced over the next few weeks and as usual there will be some great live bands plus a host of top DJ's with some very special guests dropping in to help Gilles celebrate. First acts to be confirmed are:

LIVE: Jazzanova (first ever UK live show), Robert Mitchell 3io, Dorian Concept, Quiet Village, Mama Milk, Stacy Epps, Jonathan Jeremiah.

DJ's: Gilles Peterson, bpm, Truth & Soul, Red Rack Em.

For the awards, a panel of judges selected from the Brownswood message board decide on the winners of each category which will be announced on the night and includes:

Best Jazz album

Best live session

Gilles Peterson BBC Introducing Award for best new act

Lifetime Achievement Award

The night is always a highly anticipated part of the annual calendar. In Gilles's own words: "Heres hoping that this year touches last year in terms of excitement. The stakes are high to kick the year off in some style!"

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
      You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention. 
      But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
