Robert John-Sad Eyes [1979]

Only 1 of 3 non disco #1 hits in 1979, Mr. Roberto John waited 20 yrs for to get to the top of the charts. It's off his 1979 self titled album. I was searching for this forever because I thought it was Leo Sayer that sang this song. Another one of those timeless ballads, IMO.

He had a #3 hit in 1972 with a cover of The Tokens early 60's tune The Lion Sleeps Tonight.

He managed a #31 hit in 1980 with a cover of Eddie Holman's late 60's hit Hey There Lonely Girl.

Lonely Eyes barely missed the top 40 in 1979 and he had several tracks in the top 100 but nothing else in the top 40. His last chart entry was a cover of The Newbeats late 60's hit Bread And Butter which he managed to get to #68 in 1983.

I have a few of his tracks but very few and I don't have any of his albums. I don't even have Lonely Eyes but I remember hearing it on the radio. I do have the all of the other tracks mentioned above. If anyone wants a copy of some of them send me a pm.

Thanks for the vid!

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
