Download Free Music from Any Social Music Service With FreeMusicZilla or OrbitDownloader

Freemusiczilla is desktop based software that basically lets you download any song you can stream on the Internet. There are lots of services like it, but none are as easy to use, or work as well, as Freemusiczilla did in my testing.

The software is Windows only. One you’ve downloaded it, any song that plays on a site (MySpace, imeem, Pandora, Last.fm, Skreemr, Seeqpod, etc.) is noted by the program. Click a button and the song is downloaded to your hard drive.

Looks useful. Interesting that you have to install a different program for each music service.

Mac people can use Radio HiJack - but it isn't set up to function with a simple click of a button.

Songbird and Peel allow you to download songs from blogs, but MusicZilla takes the game a step farther into the streaming realm. Nice.

Wired takes a look at MusicZilla:

"VCRs are legal, so there's a legal basis for Free Music Zilla and other streamripping programs. In its current carnation, the program shouldn't present Pandora and the others with much of a problem in terms of keeping their label licensees happy. But if it gets slicker (integration with an acoustic song identifier would help), you can bet the cease and desist letters will start flying -- assuming they haven't already."

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
