Amazon and Walmart Driving Industry Away From DRM

Interesting - the industry won't listen to consumers, or Apple, but take Walmart and Amazon seriously:

"As if DRM needed more of a hint to get its coat and leave, Amazon is set to announce a promotional giveaway of one billion MP3s during next year's Super Bowl," according to Ars Technica.

"Billboard was first to note that this announcement signals an all-out offensive on DRM, which is made even more powerful by parallel pressures brought by Wal-Mart. In a bid for more of the digital download space, the brick-and-mortar retailer heavyweight has reportedly given an ultimatum to some of the largest record labels, including Warner Music Group and Sony BMG Music Entertainment, to provide more of their respective music catalogs in MP3 format (that is, without DRM) next year."

DRM is no problem if you ask me. DRM can be broken. Low quality tracks and expensive tracks cannot be fixed. That includes iTunes and every big retailer. They can all take their songs and shove them up their ass.

The worst thing about iTunes is that if you want to register, they ask for your credit card number. How sneaky is that?

Gee that's mighty generous. I hope they don't have to declare bankruptcy. Maybe they could just donate the money to paying off the national debt.
