What are your favourite love songs of the 70s?

Here's a few:

Let's stay together by Al Green

What becomes of the brokenhearted by Jimmy Ruffin [rereleased in 74 in UK]

Just my imagination [running away with me] by The Temptations

The most beautiful girl by Charlie Rich

Hangin' on by Al Green [from Al Green explores your mind album].

I would have done a more general question but I couldn't figure out where I would have to put it on the boards.

Well, here's Al Green performing "Let's stay together"...

and here's the Charlie Rich song...

and Jimmy Ruffin

and last but not least it's the mighty Temptations:

Sorry that I couldn't find Al Green doing the album track and I'm afraid don't know how to make them come up as screens!

I always liked this version of I get a kick out of you from 73 or so:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=dC_Cr4MJGoM

tho it's got to be a contender for the cheapest video ever made. It's worth posting just because it's so limited!

ps: notice how the reference to cocaine is changed to "just one more sniff" from the "even one sniff" of Sinatra's version.

My mum's favourite singers were Tom Jones and Johnny Mathis...terrible memories lol.

Here's one for Pussy Galore, thought she might have posted this one but it looks like I'll have to do it for her.

It's Al Green singing How can you mend a broken heart?

That's Eddie Kendrix on lead vocals [the Temptation with the high voice] who did have solo success in the 70s with Keep on truckin'.

Infact, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it was a no 1 single in the USA.

The early to mid 70s were a time when I used to listen to the American charts with envy. They had some really deep, quality music that crossed over commercially in a historically unusual way. The double album Gratitude by a pre-disco Earth, Wind and Fire was best selling US album for 75 [3 sides of it are live] whilst it was an obscurity that I had to buy at a specialist soul store on the market, along with all those precious early Kool and the Gang albums.

Great days for the US.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
