RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil: An Indian tribe that has had no formal contact with Western civilization has been located in a remote Amazon region, federal authorities said Friday.

The Metyktire tribe, with about 87 members, was found last week in an area that is difficult to reach because of thick jungle and a lack of nearby rivers some 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles) northwest of Rio de Janeiro, said Mario Moura, a spokesman for the Federal Indian Bureau, or Funai.

A couple weeks ago, I went to a fundraiser and met DR. MARK PLOTKIN, an ethno-botanist and founder of the Amazon Conservation Teammet. He brought along Indian Shahman (DON LUCIANO MUTUMBAJOY) from the Ingano tribe in the Northwest Amazon. Dr. Plotkin is uniting the tribes so that the government and private interests don't take their forests. Plotkin said 20-25% of global warming is caused by the burning of the Amazon!

Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
