Hi all

The best rock band right now is Sleater-Kinney.Sleater-Kinney, composed of Tucker, 28, guitarist-singer Carrie Brownstein, 26, and drummer-singer Janet Weiss, 35, is a punk band because, among other reasons, a sense of exclusion and marginalization is part of what drives its music.

I like them, too...you can check out their music here and live on KEXP. For punks, they're kinda cute lookin' :)

I kinda like The National at the moment...

Dude - can I get a recommendation out of you for them? I've heard some stuff that I've thought to be sensational and some that I've thought to be crud and I think I need some help from someone that knows them a bit better.

Ta.

Get Boxer. I don't care much for the earlier stuff either but Boxer does it for me. :)

Thanks Umma. Just having a listen as we speak.

I like the Boxer and the Alligator cds. But you should know this - their music is the kind of stuff that grows on you; you listen to it about 5 times and go, ok, and then all of a sudden you go, woaaa

I wouldn't expect you to have heard every artist the labels pay people to shill.

But they are trying.

Labels

Hand over an advertising cheque or fuck off. Go ahead and suggest stuff but don't come back to pimp the shit if it didn't sell under the last name.

If this is just some guys in the band's brother, try contacting an admin next time to get suggestions for more exposure.

I don't mind if people shill if they write decent posts or the music is good or they actually post some of it. Sadly, most of the time, its a blip post and the bands are just so-so

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
