RACHEL HUNTER to play lesbian in new movie

Rachel Hunter is going from dating a string of superhunks to a lesbian role.

The blonde bombshell will play gay cook Jude in in the movie La Cucina (The Kitchen) alongside The L Word babe Leisha Hailey.

The film focuses on two romantic dinners on one star-crossed night.

Rachel's lesbian character lives above pregnant housewife Shelly (Hailey) and dishes out love advice.

When Shelly's attempt to whip up a lasagna turns to custard and her husband Chris (Oz Perkins, Legally Blonde) orders pizza instead, she rushes upstairs for a helping of comfort from Jude.

Shelly finds Jude lost in her passion, preparing an elaborate Italian meal for her and long-time lover Celia (Jericho beauty Clare Carey) who is destined not to make it home for dinner.

In a parallel plot, 30-year-old Lily (Christina Hendricks, Mad Men) is readying a culinary treat for a new and much older man in her life -Spanish photojournalist Michael (Joaquim de Almeida from 24).

Passionate appetites then overlap in the quirky movie feast.

La Cucina - due to screen next year - is a change of pace and role for Rachel, 37, who has starred in Hollywood big-budget movies Rock Star and MacArthur Park.

She also starred in a New Zealand-made movie alongside Hollywood legend Joan Collins and child star Spencer Breslin (Santa Claus, The Kid).

The movie, Ozzie - about a koala and a gang of thieves - was made about five years ago but has only recently been released on DVD.

But it's her off-screen antics that have provoked most of her headlines.

In La Cucina, the Kiwi supermodel - who has been romanced by pin-up popstars Robbie Williams and Wes Scantlin - will portray a fatalistic lesbian who has learned to enjoy the now after earlier experiences of abandonment and discrimination.

In real life, Rachel is a millionaire supermum with 14-year-old daughter Renee and son Liam, 13, to veteran Brit rocker Rod Stewart.

The beach babe from Glenfield, on Auckland's North Shore, recently added another string to her bow by launching her own swimwear range Lola - designed for curvaceous gals.

The collection, which hits New Zealand stores in July, could help Rachel make the transition from model to businesswoman, like Elle Macpherson and Caprice.
