It's burning in LA, literally, 90 degrees, and one of the hillsides near the famous carousel in Griffith Park is on fire... 4000 acres, and its near the Griffith Observatory, which was where Rebel Without A Cause was fillmed. I've bicycled near there..

How about you guys?

jesus h christ...will someone send these pics to the preznit or something? fuckin' bloody hell, this shit is crazy, it seems the fires start earlier and earlier every year.

over here it's been in the 50s and low 60s in Bristol and the 60s to low 70s in London. 4 distinct seasons, and now everything's blooming, just like when i was a kid growing up in NYC.

Maybe he can send the National Guard to help figh......oh, I forgot....most of the Guard people are either dead in boxes here or over in Iraq...and most of the transportation is over there with them.

I was at an environmental presentation yesterday with some people who are working with the indigenous peoples to save the rain forests. The presenter suggested that 20% of global warming is due to deforestation

      You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention. 
      But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
