NBC/Universal Teams Up Against Google/Youtube Over Copyright Issue

Recommended Posts

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - NBC Universal is taking sides with fellow media conglomerate Viacom Inc. over a piracy lawsuit filed against Google Inc.'s online video sharing site YouTube, according to papers filed in court.

The case involves a separate party, Los Angeles News Service operator Robert Tur, who sued YouTube in July for allowing its users to appropriate his famous footage of trucker Reginald Denny being beaten during the 1992 Los Angeles riots.

In a filing submitted late on Friday to the U.S. District Court of the Central District of California, NBC Universal and Viacom submitted a friend of the court brief opposing YouTube's bid to dismiss the copyright infringement suit brought by Tur.

Billy. What a guy. He was a registered agent for Libya so he could legally lobby on their behalf. He had the distinction of being the brother of one of the worst presidents of the last century. There were a couple of other very poor presidents (Clinton, Johnson) so it is hard to pick the worst.

President Kerry would have done things a lot differently than President Turkey has, for sure. He would have searched for and found the chief terrorist, Osama Bin Laden, instead of choosing the position President Turkey took with Osama:

Johnson was a mixed bag - he integrated America, but screwed up in Viet Nam.

There were no wars during Clinton's term and the country pretty much prospered, and in fact got rid of the national debt; so what made Clinton poor in your opinion, Red?

For that matter, there were no wars during Carter's Presidency either, and people tend to forget that he was hit with the oil crisis, or that we had to pay for Reagan's so-called prosperity years later.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
