Archie Bell & The Drells - Tighten Up, I Just Can't Stop Dancing

Recommended Posts

Archie Bell was a soul artist in the late 60s, whose career was interrupted by Viet Nam. He climbed to the top of the charts with Tighten Up, one of the classic all time soul hits. But check out the dancers, and the hippy backup band in the video  they were stylin'

i cant stop dancing was a followup hit - too bad no concert footage was available; im not sure the pretty country pictures match the song - those cows don't seem to be groovin' lol - but whatever, its all I could find - the music is still great.

Back in the mid 70's Archie Bell lived in an apartment next door to a friend of mine. After my buddy had moved out he mentioned it to me. He had told Archie he had never heard of him and Archie was somewhat insulted.

I couldn't believe he hadn't heard of him either. :glare:

Tighten Up was playing in my trailer park.

He also knew one of the members of The Five Americans during the same time period. I never met anybody that was famous except a couple of guys that had their pic on the wall at the post office. :(

That "trailer park" look is much sought after. You either have it naturally (like me) or you have to spend lots of money and effort to get it (Nick Nolte, Britney Spears).

"Trailer park" is not just a "look" it is a life style. These two have mastered it.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
