No MTV, CBS on DISH Network

Recommended Posts

Last night I was watching Beavis & Butthead on MTV2, and suddenly this announcement started to roll across the bottom of the screen: "Attention dish network customers...Comedy Central, MTV"...

Then the bottom of the screen went black and the announcement (and Beavis' legs) disappeared for a about 40 seconds. I was going to call dish network and complain to find out what just got censored, but it was after midnight and I didn't feel like moving.

Then this morning when my son's preschool programs on Noggin were coming on, we got an announcement instead of programming. Apparently I (and every other dish network customer) is the victim of a media war between Echostar and Viacom...

More news here and here.

What is the Nick GAS channel that seems to be a bone of contention?

It stands for Nickelodeon Games And Sports. It's a really really crappy channel that targets kids and shows old shows like Wild N Crazy Kids, Nickeloden Guts (with the Aggrocrag, etc.), Double Dare, and other shows like these that haven't been shown in ages

That's what I know. Dish Network just raised their rates last month, one of the reasons why Viacom is saying wtf about their unwillingness to absorb their increase in rates...anyone know how reliable the hacking hardware/software is for echostar equipment? I keep looking at it--for the cost of 1 or 2 months worth of subscription it would seem one could get the materials to get the programming for nothing.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
