It sure was a major quake. The pic is not very representative though. Those shipping containers are a foot taller than they are wide and they stack them at least 3 or 4 high. A very small quake would make them tumble. Some of those pics that show buildings collapsed that were well built does a better job of showing the true power of the quake.

We had a small quake/tremor last year that was centered about 30 miles from my house. It did little if any damage and the fact that we had one was rare for us. The U.S. tries to keep the quakes in L.A. where they can't do any damage. Nothing in L.A. is worth a shit in the first place and nobody with a lick of sense would live there.

I can't think of anybody that lives out that way. How about you Kiwi? Can you think of anyone foolish enough to live there?

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
