Rush-Tom Sawyer

Here is my favorite Rush song - The Big Money. Don't know who the drummer is who's jammin' along, but everyone is entitled to their 15 minutes of fame :)

I'm fairly certain this is the song and album that got me into Rush in 1985. While a late starter for enjoying the band, I quickly scooped up their entire catalogue in the following years. I think Counterparts is one of their best later albums, although I enjoy just about every album completely. I think that I'd have to say I enjoy Roll the Bones or their self-titled debut album the least. This video above was impressive, but could have done without the ego solo.

I wouldn't mind seeing the video for this song again. This entire album, Power Windows, is awesome.

Then you might know about this. A few years ago, I had a small app called "Power Windows". What it did was replace all the Windows sounds with short snips of Rush songs. I've moved since then, and I have a different computer now. I can't find this at all. It was on a site with many Rush bootlegs too.

First time I heard "Tom Sawyer" was in the 11th row, three weeks before Moving Pictures was released. :D

Have to say though, that by the 10,111th time I heard it on the radio, my enthusiasm for the song had flagged considerably.

My favorite Rush tunes are all old skool. Working Man, By-Tor, La Villa, 2112 Suite. Primus' sendup of XYZ in the intro to John The Fisherman.

But my number one all time favorite Rush tune is

Cygnus X-1 Book I: The Voyage

The bassline to that freaking rocks. Unfortunately, every sample I am finding online is only of the first 30 seconds, which is just the sound effects prelude...if I find a better sample I'll post it.

Meanwhile, check out this Rush site--scroll down and check out the player--5 different Rush tunes, including Temples of Syrinx from 2112. Lots of info and reviews of pretty mush everything Rush ever did on there, too

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
