DJ Rap announced last week via a premiere on Bassrush that she would be releasing a string of new singles on her Propa Talent label through the end of the year. The premiere of “Dark Places” hit the Beatport charts right away with its combination of heavy bass, tough breaks (which literally said the word “break”) and old school vibes with modern styling. It’s a solid, comprehensive D&B track which honors the genre in a way only the greats like Rap can do.

With more singles in the post and an upcoming world tour, Rap still managed to make time for a scintillating 60-minute mix for Your EDM. The mix includes “Dark Places” of course and it reflect’s the tracks diverse style while being a journey all its own. Rap careens through a dizzying number of tracks, mixing them seamlessly and telling the story of drum & bass and jungle’s history.

For many DJs, taking on a mix like this to capture the technical nuance and the 25+ years of dancefloor vibes created by D&B would be almost unfeasible but it seems effortless because she’s lived it, and she’s going to keep living it. Stay tuned for more classic tunes and festival vibes but in the meantime, enjoy this thoroughly “Propa” mix.

“Dark Places” is out now and can be purchased on Beatport or streamed on SoundCloud. Check out DJ Rap’s website for updated tour dates this summer and fall.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
