Soul-Sides Blog

Recommended Posts

"For the last six months, Oliver Wang, a thirty-two-year-old San Francisco DJ and freelance writer, has been transferring soul and hip-hop classics from vinyl to MP3 and posting them on the Internet. "I have 7,000 albums," he says. "I figured I might as well digitize some of them." With the record industry increasingly turning to the courts to stop illegal file-sharing, Wang, who posts the MP3s without permission, would seem to be setting himself up for a lawsuit. But record labels are taking a hands-off approach to his MP3 blog, Soul Sides" - Rolling Stone

This is a pretty good blog - if you are into soul music, this should be a daily destination...

I agree. SS is an excellent blog. There are lots of other great music blogs around which specialize in rare Soul tracks:

The Stepfather of Soul, Souled On, Soul Detective just to mention a few of my favorites.

I never understood, however, how they can post so much material without getting into trouble. I hope they never will have problems!

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
