Totally Crazy: Reach no. 1 without selling a single CD

Recommended Posts

gnarlsbarkley.jpgGnarls Barkley's song 'Crazy' made chart history last weekend, by becoming the first song ever to reach number one in the UK charts, based on sales from computer downloads alone.

The song entered the charts at number one last week despite the fact that the single will only be released in shops today.

Downloads from Internet websites have been included in the UK charts since last April, after traditional single sales fell to extremely low levels.

Download sales of a single can now be counted a week before the track is released in shops, according to new rules.

Gennaro Castaldo of HMV said: "It does represent chart history in the making. It shows the download market has really taken off."

Reminds me of the stuff Motown used to do - up tempo and hopeful. That song is much better than their other offerings

But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
