BeatKing Region on NationStates

CTC Command

Recommended Posts

We now have our own region on NationStates.net. It is 0000 BeatKing

(as in four zeroes, space, then BeatKing. so named, so we are on the 4th or 5th page of regions instead of the 60th)

"NationStates is a free nation simulation game. Build a nation and run it according to your own warped political ideals. Create a Utopian paradise for society's less fortunate or a totalitarian corporate police state. Care for your people or deliberately oppress them. Join the United Nations or remain a rogue state. It's really up to you."

Feel free to join up!

Getting Started

To start a new Nation, go here. You'll be asked to choose a name for your nation, a motto, a national animal, and a currency. Then you answer a short questionnaire about your politics. This will determine what sort of nation you end up with: authoritarian or permissive... left-wing or right-wing... compassionate or psychotic... you get the idea.

Once a day, you'll be faced with an issue, and need to make a decision as to what to do about it. This determines how your nation evolves.

Moving your nation to BeatKing

Once you are up and running, you will start off somewhere in the Pacific. To move your nation to the BeatKing region, you can click on the link to view your region, and then and click the link that says, "Tired of life in (your region)? Then move to a new region!"

Type in 0000 BeatKing, and move yourself there.

You create your own vision of how a nation should be. Then, depending on the frequency settings you choose the game provides you with issues on which you must make decisions balanced between your respective priorities. [these come in the form of 3 opinions from your advisors]

That's it. Keep your state running as smoothly and as close to your mindset as you can while balancing economic, social and political inconsistencies.

You can also choose to join the UN, but that requires adhering to every resolution they have passed. [joining the UN allows you to vote on resolutions]

Most questions can be answered at the NationStates FAQ

As far as the UN goes, while the game says UN member states are supposed to adhere to all the resolutions, in reality there is no mechanism in place to make sure that anybody is. Your local Issues, which shape your governmental, social and economic policy, are not affected by UN resolutions whether you are in the UN or not. You could turn your nation into a Psychotic Dictatorship and totally opress your people and the environment at home, and be a tree-hugging animal-rights bleeding heart Massachusetts liberal at the UN. Kind of like the real world, lol...

It is just another dimension of the gameplay that you can participate in. Or not.

Once in the UN, you can propose resolutions and vote yea or nay on the ones other nations are proposing.

Issues

Each nation is beset by Issues. How frequently a nation is presented with issues to deal with is regulated in the Settings link in the left-hand menu. Click on Settings and change how often new Issues come up: One per Weekday, One per Day, Two per Weekday, Two per Day, or None. Also there is Vacation Mode, which is good to check if you know you aren't going to be able to check your nation for a while.

It is with Issues that you shape the destiny of your nation, and the UN category your nation is categorized as.

Inactivity and Deletion

The game automatically deletes nations that are inactive for 28 days. However, if the settings are on Vacation, your nation has a 60 day period before getting deleted.

If your nation does get deleted from inactivity, it isn't the end of the world, just as long as you registered an email address when you founded your nation. Contact an administrator here, scroll down to "restore a deleted nation" and tell them the name of your nation and your email address. They will email you and reactivate your nation free of charge, and it will come back in the Lazarus region.

Adminstrators and Mods

If you are getting abusive telegrams or the region gets crashed by unwelcome migrants who start illegally ejecting people, just contact a mod and they'll usually straigten everything out in a day or so.

War and Region Crashing

While nations can't really take over other nations, a nation CAN take over a region by getting enough UN endorsements. Interested nations first need to join the UN. then move into a region and start telegraming the region's UN members and asking for endorsements. This is the "nice" way to take over a region.

Then there's the region crashers. These are groups of nations that belong to the UN that move into a region, and by seizing the UN delegate position they take over a region. This can be prevented by setting up password protection to enter the region, which I could do if enough member states at BeatKing vote to do so.

Also, there are groups of nations who go around restoring regions to the original owners, so should BeatKing ever get taken over, we could always request their aid. Often they will show up univited and provide this service gratis, as happened several times in another region I was a memebr of a few months back.

Puppet States

Nations can also have puppet states. All you have to do is go to the create nation page and create a new nation. While there is supposedly a limit of 5, one can get around this by not providing an email or giving an alternate email address for the puppet states.

A word of warning however--only ONE nation can belong to the UN at a time. If you try to join more than one nation to the UN, you will get banned. And the game has like 4 different ways to detect this, so best not even trying.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
