Long Live Rock & Roll

Everybody said that it would last a year or two

When Elvis has faded, we'll be into something new

They were wrong, I've seen it proven, many years have flown

We're all proud to see our music come into its own

California to St. Louie, London, Liverpool

Everywhere it's all the same, and everybody's cool

Relling rocking, slipping sliding, we've been through it all

Looking back across the years, we've really had a ball

Long Live Rock & Roll, that feeling in your soul

Keeps you from getting old, that good old rock & roll

Long Live Rock & roll, come on, let's play some more

Keeps me from getting old, that good old rock & roll

The '60s had The Beatles, and they taught us how to live

Told us what they knew of love and showed us how to give

They're still doing fine although they may have settled down

We still have their music, and those CDs spin around

Two generations moving, grooving, singing with the band

50 years of changes, and it's still in great demand

Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison too

I just hope I live to see them all before it's through

Long Live Rock & Roll, that feeling in your soul

Keeps you from getting old, that good old rock & roll

Long Live Rock & Roll, come on, let's play some more

Keeps me from getting old, that good old rock & roll

Disco dancing with The Bee Gees, I caught that fever too

4 young Swedes called ABBA won it all with Waterloo

Prince, Madonna, Ms Shania making videos

Now we've come full circle, that's how the story goes

Everybody said that it would last a year or two

When Elvis has faded, we'll be into something new

But if you're up in Cleveland and you'd like to see your name

Come on down to One Key Plaza to The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

Long Live Rock & Roll, that feeling in your soul

Keeps you from getting old, that good old rock & roll

Long Live Rock & Roll, come on, let's play some more

Keeps me from getting old, that good old rock & roll

Still like that old time rock n' roll

That kind of music just soothes the soul

I reminisce about the days of old

With that old time rock n' roll

You might want to do a little work on your chorus...part of it is pretty similar, at least in the rhyming structure, to Bob Segar's song, Old Time Rock & Roll

You might want to think of a new title--Long Live Rock & Roll has already been used ;)

Rainbow - Long Live Rock & Roll

At the end of a dream

If you know where I mean

When the mist just starts to clear

In a similar way

At the end of today

I could feel the sound of writing on the wall

It cries for you

It’s the least that you can do

Like a spiral on the wind

I can hear it screamin’ in my mind

Long live rock and roll

Long live rock ’n’ roll

Long live rock and roll

In a different time

When the words didn’t rhyme

You could never quite be sure

Then on with the change

It was simple but strange

And you knew the feeling seemed to say it all

It cries for you

It’s the least that you can do

Like a spiral on the wind

I can hear it screamin’ in my mind

Long live rock and roll

Long live rock ’n’ roll

Long live rock and roll

If you suddenly see

What has happened to me

You should spread the word around

And tell everyone here

That it’s perfectly clear

They can sail above it all on what they’ve found

It cries for you

It’s the best that you can do

Like a sound that’s everywhere

I can hear it screaming through the air

Long live rock and roll

Long live rock ’n’ roll

Long live rock and roll

  • 2 months later...

I have a melody for Long Live Rock & Roll. I actually wrote the chorus and first 2 verses in 1973 and recorded it. Verse 3 came about in the 90s. The only way I would record it again is if the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame were interested because I mention them in verse 3. My melody is dated.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
