Checkmates, Ltd. - Love Is All We Have To Give (1969)

The hit track on this album is Black Pearl which is a Phil Spector production at it's finest. The rest of the album is good too. You frequently hear Black Pearl credited to Sonny Charles And The Checkmates, Ltd. which is how it was listed on the 45. Black Pearl was written by Spector, Toni Wine and Ian Levine. Toni Wine also recorded some songs and had a #22 hit in 1963 with My Boyfriend's Coming Home For Christmas. She was also a vocalist in "The Archies". On their bubblegum hit, Sugar Sugar she had the line, "I'm gonna make your life so sweet". She was a dark haired beauty that could get the job done 4sure!

I don't have the album except on hard drive but I bought the 45 back in the early 70s. As you can see from the scan, I still have it. :)

Tracks:

Proud Mary

Spanish Harlem

Black Pearl

I Keep Forgettin’

Love Is All I Have To Give

The Hair Anthology Suite

Leona Lewis - Spirit (2007) Deluxe Edition (2008)

The Deluxe Edition has a couple of bonus tracks and a DVD. I wish I had a copy of the DVD. Her "Footprints In The Sand" is one of the best music vids I have ever seen. It is "redneck recommended" viewing.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
