Today's games will determine who goes to the best bowls and who will play for the national championship. If SC or Texas loses, my teams, Penn State and UCLA have a shot at the National Championship:

BCS gets the glitz without the griping

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A perfect championship game, a classic coaching matchup and Notre Dame.

The Bowl Championship Series couldn't have asked for more -- a glitzy lineup with little for critics to gripe over. Only Oregon has a case to complain, as the Pac-10 has a 10-1 team left out of the marquee bowls for a second straight season.

Southern California and Texas, the only unbeatens left in Division I-A, will decide the national title in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 4.

"They do have the No. 1 team in the country," Texas coach Mack Brown said of the two-time defending champion Trojans. "They've just blown out people out right and left and that will be challenge for us. But that's fun.

"For Texas not to be in the national championship game for 36 years and to see where (USC coach) Pete (Carroll) has brought their program the last three years, that's where we want to be. That's where we want to go."

Major college football's two winningest coaches, septuagenarians Penn State's Joe Paterno and Florida State's Bobby Bowden, will meet in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 3.

The Fighting Irish are back in the BCS after a five-year absence. Charlie Weis' team faces Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 2.

The relocated Sugar Bowl will be played in Atlanta on Jan. 2 after being chased from New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina, making it a quick and familiar trip for Southeastern Conference champion Georgia and its fans to the Georgia Dome. The Bulldogs (10-2), who won the SEC title by beating LSU in the Georgia Dome on Saturday, meet Big East champion West Virginia (10-1).

Internet Vendors Pushing the Limits on Rose Bowl Tickets

...Brokers and online sources were offering the $175 face-value tickets for about $1,000 to well over $4,000 Tuesday. A spokesman for RazorGator.com said the average price for tickets already sold was about $885. At StubHub.com, that figure was $1,117.

I'd rather be at home with friends, enjoying the game on tv

MIAMI, Wednesday, Jan. 4 - It took Penn State three overtimes and more than four and a half hours in the Orange Bowl to cement its place among college football's elite teams. In the process, Joe Paterno moved a victory closer to Bobby Bowden on the major college career victories list.

Penn State Coach Joe Paterno moved a victory closer to Flordia State Coach Bobby Bowden on the major college career victories list.

Kevin Kelly's 29-yard field goal finally allowed the NittanyLions to beat Florida State, 26-23, before 77,773 at DolphinsStadium, just before 1 a.m. on Wednesday.

Texas takes the National Championship in a cliffhanger! Texas's QB Vince Young was unbelievable...

Incredible game tonight, with Texas winning in the last 19 seconds of the game. After the game it was revealed that the George Bush administration had secretly tapped the phone lines between the coaches. Their data mining had targeted in on phrases such as "long bomb" "Russian (rushing) strategy" and "I ran".... the CIA was johnny-on-the-spot to arrest everyone involved, especially a Bush impersonator on the USC team. Our tax dollars at work.... <_ :yup:>

It ranks as one of the best college football games ever - and the QB should get the Heisman - I dont think there has ever been a player that did it all like that :good job:

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
