My team, Penn State is 4-0 for the first time in years, and is not even ranked. My other alma mater, UCLA, is number 20, but Im turning into a USC fan

Woohoo! Someone heard my complaint. My team, Penn State is now 5-0 and tied for the lead of the Big Ten. They also jumped from out of nowhere to number 16 in the polls, and next weekend will play number 6 Ohio State, which has already lost a game. If they beat Ohio State, they will undoubtedly move to the Top 10 - the fastest climb I've ever seen... :)

And here is the reason why... http://www.nytimes.com/2005/10/03/sports/n...03colleges.html

And sorry, ASU--you almost beat USC...

My ama mater Penn State won big time over Wisconsin and is now on top of the Big 10, arguably the toughest football conference in the NCAA. Look for them to break the top 5 - maybe the top 3 in the Bowl Polls :) I think they are as good as Texas and USC, and the only reason they are undefeated is because of a 1 second play, a play which Michigan asked for extra time after the clock ran out and got to win :reallymad: My graduate team, UCLA, is no longer undefeated - they got trounced by Arizona... I will post the scores and polls tomorrow

***

Well, I was close:

Michael Pointer of The Indianapolis Star had Alabama No. 3 and Miami fourth.

``I kind of wrestled with that to tell the truth but I came down to my rule if you're undefeated and play in the SEC you have to be ahead of the team with one loss,'' he said.

Pointer said he even considered putting Penn State ahead of Alabama.

I can see we have a lot of college football fans here  Well if Method can hiave his soccer thread, I guess I can have my college football thread

As I predicted, Penn State should be in the top 3 teams - and according to the computer rankings, they are

http://www.mratings.com/cf/compare.htm

They've moved up to #5 in the BCS Bowl Polls and otherwise, are

number 6 in the AP, USA and Harris Polls

Penn State beat MSU yesterday to take the Big 10 Crown--Ohio State shares the title, but loses the crown because they lost to Penn State earlier in the year. Number 3 Miami got knocked off, and Number 1 USC had a close scare from Fresno State. As predicted last week, Penn State should move to number 3, and if either USC or Texas stumbles in the last week, they will have a chance to play for the National Championship. Not bad for the team everyone dismissed, or for Joe Paterno, the 78 year old coach a lot of people wanted fired :)

USC is number one, followed by Texas, LSU and Penn State in the AP, USA Today and Harris Polls. As I predicted, Penn State is number 3 in the BCS Bowl Poll. They have an outside shot of playing for the National Championship ;)

Second-ranked Texas looks to remain on track for a berth in the national championship game when it meets Texas A&M Friday in College Station, Texas.

The Longhorns (10-0, 7-0 Big 12), ranked second in the Bowl Championship Series, need wins over the Aggies (5-5, 3-4) and in the conference championship to lock up a Rose Bowl bid, where Texas would likely face top-ranked Southern California.

The Longhorns trail the Trojans in the BCS standings by .0016 points.

Texas leads 21-15 at the half, but it looks like A & M is holding their own

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
