VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson has suggested that American agents assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to stop his country from becoming "a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism."

An official of a theological watchdog group on Tuesday criticized Robertson's statement as "chilling."

"We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability," Robertson said Monday on the Christian Broadcast Network's "The 700 Club."

What a piece of shit....

Let's not even get into the fact that his assertions of ties to "extremism" sound like a page out of a typical George Bush speech, and we all know how well a Bush speech relates to reality.

I sincerely hope the U.S. cuts out this imperialist bullshit with regards to Central America/South America. After all, sovereignty still exists.........right? Chavez was ELECTED, right? Just because the government is going to be socialist oriented doesn't mean its "evil", or "bad", or even "communist". Socialism is not communism. It's still a democratic country with hints of capitalism.

Actually, Robertson made a point without even realizing it. He mentioned oil as though it was the most important factor in this situation. So what he was saying is that the U.S. is only concerned with countries that give them something.

That’s imperialism, not humanitarianism or a promotion of “freedom”.

Brownie points to me for spelling "humanitarianism" correctly the first time.

Here's America's Best Christian and her plea to the Almighty:

http://www.bettybowers.com/nl_prayersquad.html

we are renewing the prayer we made when you first tried to kill Brother Pat Robertson with prostate cancer:

O Lord, we know that you have your reasons for lifting your veil of protection away from Brother Pat's sinful crotch. Apparently Brother Pat has said or done something to vex you and provoke your famously itchy trigger finger.

While many might assume that it was Brother Pat's profitable career of putting words in your mouth that got under your skin, perhaps, Brother Pat simply looked at you the wrong way. Any reader of the Bible knows that it is difficult to gauge exactly what will set you off. For example, we know that you turned Moses' yenta sister into a leper for simply asking a pesky question you found mildly intrusive, so there is a very good chance that Brother Pat has no idea what oversight led to the Lord turning on him and now wanting him dead.

:lol:wonkette: pat robertson asks god for commandment exception: ...we had no idea that Christianity was like some massive multiplayer game where could just take people out. (That's what he said: ''We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability.'') Sure, Robertson has called for God to empty a couple of benches on the Supreme Court, but, generously, that could just mean asking God to make them sick, or asking God to give their spouse a terminal illness so they'd have to retire. Assassination, though? Hottt. Is there a plug-in that allows you to fuck? Better hope Hillary doesn't try to ban it.

Evangelist backs off Chavez assassination call

Aug 24 12:51 PM US/Eastern

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Conservative U.S. evangelist Pat Robertson, who called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, said on Wednesday he was misinterpreted and there were a number of ways to "take him out" including kidnapping.

"I said our special forces could take him out. Take him out could be a number of things including kidnapping," Robertson said on his "The 700 Club" television program.

"There are a number of ways of taking out a dictator from power besides killing him. I was misinterpreted," Robertson added.

This is a strange stance from someone I would assume is "pro-life". It's just another instance of a hypocritical asshole using religion to instigate violence.

Robertson and Falwell are the equivalent of bin Laden lite.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
