Sticky Fingers - The Rolling Stones (1971)

Drummer Charlie watts remembered the origin of Sticky Fingers as being Mick Jagger and the songs he wrote while filming a movie in Australia. "Mick started playing the guitar a lot," Watts said. "He plays very strange rhythm guitar . . . very much how Brazilian guitarists play, on the upbeat. It is very much like the guitar on a James Brown track -- for a drummer it's great to play with." The album has tough, straight-up rock, such as "Brown Sugar" and "Bitch," but also finds the Stones expanding their sound with strings on the lovely "Moonlight Mile." Two of the best cuts are the two country songs: one forlorn ("Wild Horses") and one funny ("Dead Flowers").

Total album sales: 3 million

Peak chart position: 1

This album would be a lot higher on my list. Not a bad cut on it and everyone better than anything Guns and Roses (which was ranked higher) ever did

I would add Let It Bleed and Beggars Banquet to my favorite Rolling Stones albums. I liked Exile, but I didnt find it to be as polished producing-wise. But I think that was the intention..

Even today Sticky Fingers is my favorite by the ugliest band in the known universe. The album cover was sooooooooooooooo unique....the zipper. At the time I bought the album (vinyl...remember vinyl?) my girlfriend spent more time unzipping that than me.

The Doctor

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
